San Francisco Street Cars, Injury Accidents, And The Good Old Days

I’m a San Francisco injury attorney and my office is located in the Spear Tower just south of Market Street.  I enjoy the hustle and bustle of Market, Embarcadero, and the adjoining streets.  But I also know how dangerous Market has been and can be for pedestrians and drivers.San Francisco Market Street

The San Francisco Chronicle this morning takes a look at this area in an article that questions what many San Franciscans seem to take for granted – that the good old days were better.

Any pictures of Market Street from the early 1900s demonstrates clearly that the Market Street of that era was just as prone to congestion and danger as the the Market Street of now.  And while we do not have accurate data regarding the number of San Francisco injury accidents or really any personal injury statistics from that time period, I think it is safe to say that such personal injuries must have been common.

The recent changes to traffic heading toward the Ferry Building has relieved the area of some of the danger.  More changes are needed, however.  And while we all long for better days right now – in so many regards – let’s watch our arithmetic; good + old, does not always = better.
